Greater Indianapolis, IN (June 12, 2024) – Kings Hammer FC’s W League match against Indy Eleven ended in a 1-0 loss.
The first half of the match saw constant fighting for the ball between Kings Hammer FC and Indy Eleven. In the 11th minute, KHFC’s Lilly Yordy took her first shot on goal of the night but Indy Eleven’s goalkeeper, Kathleen Phillips, swiftly caught the ball. Maria Galley, Kings Hammer FC’s goalkeeper had a brilliant save in the 15th minute of a shot taken by Indy Eleven’s Katie Soderstrom. In the 31st minute, Natalie Mitchell with Indy Eleven made the first shot of the match with an assist by Emma Pelkowski. Undeterred, Maria Galley continued to make some amazing blocks and saves in the 36th and 41st minutes with shots from Indy Eleven’s Natalie Mitchell and Maisie Whitsett. In the 44th miniute, KHFC’s Kylee Simmons was close to giving her team their first goal of the match, but she just grazed the edge of the goal.
The second half of the game showcased some intense back-and-forth action throughout the half. In the 48th minute, Maria Galley with KHFC had another brilliant save. KHFC’s Taylor White shot towards the net in the 54th minute, but slightly over kicked the ball. Gabrielle Britt also shot towards the net in the 69th minute which was caught by Indy Eleven’s goalkeeper. A yellow card was issued to Indy Eleven’s Norah Jacomen due to persistent infractions in the 74th minute. Kings Hammer's last chance at a goal was shot by Gabrielle Britt in the 82nd minute where she aimed slightly above the net. Ultimately, the second half was scoreless for both sides, resulting in a 1-0 victory for Indy Eleven.
After the game, Kings Hammer FC’s head coach, Jacob Morrison, spoke on the team’s strengths and weaknesses during this match.
“We adapted to their system and to what we asked of them rather quick. However, I believe we did not create enough opportunities to play the ball in behind and that starts with the commitment to make the run.”
He continued to assess the KHFC ladies, saying,
“I am really proud of how our team continued to fight for the whole 90 minutes. I am a little bit disappointed in the end result because I believe we were the better team for long stretches. The difference between us and Indy Eleven is simply taking advantage of our opportunities without remorse.”
